Dear Fellow Buddhist,
According to the Burmese Government the disaster caused by the Nargis Cyclone is the worst ever in living memory in that area. The present after effects are also very severe, the Burmese are now suffering from scarcity of food, medicine and other basic necessities. Thailand is one of the first countries which the Burmese government allows to enter and distribute aid, through the Thai Red Cross Society and the Royal Armed Forces.
The World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB) headquarters together with the regional centres in Thailand is now co-operating with these 2 services. Our President H.E. Phan Wannamethee, who is also the Secretary General of the Thai Red Cross Society, has already arranged aid for the Burmese people since May 6 B.E.2551 (2008). The relief units has been sent to Burma to distribute medicines, canned food, drinking water etc. to those who are now suffering. Medical teams are also there.
The WFB would like to ask for all aid, whether financial or in basic necessities, that your organizations could offer. They are really in need of all kinds of help. Donations will be under WFB Humanitarian Relief Fund.
